Google Webmaster Tools says,
Submit a Sitemap to tell Google about pages on your site we might not otherwise discover.

A sitemap is an XML file that contain a list of all the available urls in a website with some additional informations like when it was last updated, how often it changes, and how important it is in relation to other URLs in the site. Yes, a sitemap will surely help crawlers to do their job more effetively. Having a sitemap is surely a great advantage in this arena.


What should i do ?

First, get your free xml sitemap at www.xml-sitemaps.com . Dont worry, it’s so easy that you can get it done within 4 simple steps. Just fill in their Automated Sitemap Generator with your site address, choose a suitable values for the sitemap and hit Start. Your sitemap should be ready in just a minute (depends on your site size). Download the generated sitemap ( sitemap.xml ). Then upload it to the root of your site. The sitemap address should be like this :

http://www.yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml

Second, get an account with Google Webmaster Tool. Login to your account and browse to Site Configuration > Sitemaps. Below is a picture of webmaster tool’s dashboard.

All sitemaps you submitted will be listed here. It may take two or three days for google webmaster tool to download your sitemap at first. After that it will download more regularly, so please remain calm. As you can see in picture above, it has downloaded both sitemaps and indexed some of the urls. Now. all you need to do is keep your xml sitemap updated.
