Google Earth 6 Free is now available for download . Fly anywhere to see satellite imagery, 3D buildings, 3D trees, terrain, Street View, planets, from discovering shipwrecks in the ocean to zooming into 3D cities around the world, you can explore an expansive library of tours, videos, and imagery that have been created by Google Earth and supporting partners . Google Earth 6 allows you to travel back in time to see imagery from previous years . You can view historical imagery so that you can see how places have changed over time . A small vertical lines on the timeline indicate the dates of different imagery available for your location . Simply move back or forward in time by dragging the slider along the timeline . Once you release your mouse on the timeline, the slider automatically moves to the closest date for which imagery is available .

Ground-level navigation

Enjoy a seamless photo-realistic experience with the new ground-level navigation. No more hopping between Street View photos. Now you can navigate from one panorama to the next directly within Street View. At an altitude of 500km and lower, you will see a pegman icon appear below the navigation controls which you can drag and drop to view Street View imagery. Layer data is also viewable within Street View. You can also toggle easily between Street View and a ground-level view that allows for intuitive navigation on the ground level.

Historical imagery

With Google Earth 6, you can see imagery from previous years and discover historical photos that are available. If historical imagery is available for the location that you are viewing, you can now also view how those locations used to look in the past. View how your neighborhood, home town, etc. have changed over time with this new feature of Historical Imagery.

Street View

In certain locations, you can view and navigate street-level imagery in almost the same way that you can in Google Maps . To view street-level imagery for a specific location, zoom into an area at an altitude of approximately 500km. You will see a pegman icon appear at the top right below the navigation controls. Click and drag the  icon across the 3D viewer. A blue border will appear around roads that have street-level imagery available.

Viewing 3D Trees

The goal of the 3D trees layer is to represent what trees look like in a specific area. Google has developed its own software to geo-locate and identify existing trees, from the tree species and appearance to its size and location. However, in certain areas with a wide variety of tree types, the biodiversity of tree species may not be 100% accurate. Additionally, species of trees are more likely to be accurate in urban areas than large forests, which have a large variety of tree species.
